MAiD or euthanasia may be expanded to the mentally ill in Canada. If this takes place, any adult suffering from a mental disorder, including those with substance use disorders, could become eligible for a lethal injection. This is deeply concerning because according to the Angus Reid Institute Research, forty-one percent of Canadians who sought treatment for mental health challenges in the last year faced barriers to receiving care.

Should Canada make it easier for Canadians to die or funnel more money and resources into helping people live and receive the care they desperately need? What does this issue say about the value/worth of human beings?

There are powerful voices that support Parliament's move toward the expansion of MAiD, but videographer Chris Sloan and I are producing a short film to question whether this is truly in the best interest of the country and the vulnerable in particular. One of our main goals is to ultimately use the film to raise funds for a worthy Canada-wide mental health organizations to help provide greater access to care for those suffering and decrease the need/desire for MAiD.
