One of the most distressing calls that a police officer might hear in their career is, “Officer down.” On January 6, 2021 (J6), many officers placed calls for help during a day that represents what can go wrong when irresponsibility replaces sensibility.

Many officers suffered physically and emotionally that day. One officer in particular was not offered the emotional, let alone work place support he needed that day and the subsequent years that followed.

My name is Kinsey N Jones III. I have been close friends with Tarik K. Johnson (TK) for over 23 years. Close enough where the term “friend” no longer represents the true brotherhood that we share, not because of the uniform but because of the man.

TK has had to bear the consequences of doing the right thing under extreme circumstances. TK paid for his legal defense in administrative matters to prevent from being terminated and from being demoted from lieutenant to private. TK knew that after being cleared to return that he could not work for people he no longer trusted. TK was ordered not to speak about the events of January 6th 2021 and he was not offered all of the same mental health services that were offered to members of the agency immediately after January 6th 2021. TK paid for his own mental health services to cope with PTSD and anxiety from what he went through on January 6th 2021.

TK left the agency so that he could speak out publically about his concerns on what really occurred before, during and after J6. Since his departure, TK works 2 jobs, 7 days a week to provide for his family.

Unfortunately, those jobs do not provide the financial support he needs for his families regular living expenses. Since leaving the agency, TK will have lost over $250,000 in salary, attorney fees, and other expenses related to the events of January 6th 2021 by the time he is eligible to retire in November 2025.

On his behalf, I am asking for you to make a donation to help support him and his family during this trying time as he is diligently trying to correct the wrongs that were done to him and other people as a result of the events that occurred on January 6th 2021.

TK has not taken money or profited from any interviews.

TK did not approach me in this matter.

If indeed the officers that fought that day were in fact heroic then they all should be recognized. TK Johnson is one of the few that has yet to be recognized for his heroism that day.
