On July 30, Jack Hadfield went to report on the Southport, UK protests for the news outlet, The Publica.
These protests were in response to a horrific stabbing that left three little girls dead, and several others in critical condition.
Jack was collecting footage, and reporting on the event as it unfolded. At some point, he was targeted by protesters. They swarmed him and tried to rob him of his belongings. Someone punched Jack so hard in the face that he lost a tooth. Luckily, Jack wasn't hurt anywhere else and the attackers only made off with his phone charger.
When Jack approached police for assistance, they shooed him away and instructed him to go back towards the people who'd attacked him.
Jack ended up going to the hospital where doctors treated a big lump on the back of his head, scrapes and bruises and thankfully cleared him of any serious head trauma.
But, this leaves the issue of Jack's missing tooth! Dentistry the world over isn't cheap and we'd love to help Jack get his tooth repaired. We're asking that anyone who can spare a few dollars pitch in to help us achieve this.
On the ground reporting is so important and without fearless journalists going into the thick of it, we'd never know the true goings-on at these events. Jack routinely puts his hand up to cover protests so that people around the world can see events as they unfold. If you love original and independent reporting, please consider chipping in to help offset some of Jack's medical expenses.
We appreciate the support for Jack and his reporting.
Hope Jack is ok x
Keep up the good work and I'm sorry the police there wouldn't help you, that is a tragedy...
