On a quest to rekindle the arts and bring our theatrical focus back to the intimate artist-audience relationship, Embers was established in 2016 as a playground for young creatives: an independent theatre company grounded by conservative, Christian values. Embers has met families through summer theatre camps for children and established a community of artists and hosts around the Give the Players a Stage project: an annual traveling tour through Maryland and Northern Virginia.
High school and college students audition in June for the Give the Players a Stage project. Actors and musicians arrive with lines memorized and music rehearsed for a week of intensive rehearsals before the tour. Churches, families, and small businesses with the requisite space to accommodate our trailer stage host our players for a night. Our 2023 tour of Shakespeare’s As You Like It played in five different locations to an approximated audience of 600. Each tour costs $5,000 to put on with paid staff and volunteer high school and college actors. In 2023 this support came through crowd funding and by reinvesting beginning acting camp income into the business.
We are currently seeking sponsors for our 2025 summer tour of A Crime Wave at Blandings Castle - a comedy by Kiley (Hatch) Lawrence, adapted from the short story by P.G. Wodehouse.
The average cost of our traveling tour is $3,000.
