Dear fellow supporters,
Join us in empowering a community that includes 900 hungry children in Echariria, Nakuru, Kenya.
The Echariria Primary School Story
The people of Echariria, a small village in Mbaruk, Nakuru, Kenya, were forced out of their homes as a result of tribal conflicts back in the nineties and, for thirty years, struggled with poverty and hopelessness. After a tragedy in the community that resulted in the loss of a nine-year-old life by suicide, some good neighbors came to lend support.
Frecia Kamau, a woman from a neighboring village, along with her two sons, two sisters, and a friend, began volunteering their efforts to help feed as many children as they could personally afford so that no other child would die of hopelessness due to feeling the pain and discomfort of starvation. One of Frecia's sisters, Ruth Ngethe, of Peabody, MA, partnered with her and began sending money to support her sister’s efforts to feed these malnourished children.
Ruth, Frecia’s sister, a faithful Christian woman, informed her Pastor, Eliezer Perez of Center Church of Peabody, MA, about the Echariria Primary School dilemma. Center Church’s small congregation started sending $500/month, allowing Frecia and her team to cook enough food to feed 100-150 students daily. For the entire year, Pastor Eliezer prayed with Ruth and Frescia for other partners to join their efforts to help feed the whole school population.
In November of 2022, Rev. Charles Rukwaro, the Executive Director of Good Hope Inc., based in Lynnfield, MA, joined the team. Rev. Rukwaro is a Kenyan native whose family lives in Nakuru, about 30 kilometers from the school. Good Hope Inc. became the perfect partner for this operation. Eliezer and Charles traveled to Nakuru and met the school and community leaders to solidify the partnership and streamline the project.
Currently, this partnership serves 350 meals daily to the youngest and poorest children and teachers. This feeding improves attendance, participation, learning, and child development. However, an additional 570 malnourished children suffering from hunger pains need your help to be fed.
This partnership wants to help the project’s community become self-sustaining by purchasing an incubator and giving each family chickens to raise so they can eat and sell the eggs in the market. The partnership requests several upgrades to include ovens (currently cooking over open flame without ventilation) and rainwater collectors (currently purchasing water). These will reduce the cost of the program, ensuring its longevity. The most current need is building a storehouse to purchase food in bulk to lower the price.
Thank you Pastor Eliezer and Casey for your unwavering commitment to Love God and Love People!
