Supporting Donnas Cancer Care

An Opportunity to Be a Blessing

Here’s another story of a life affected by cancer. I’m sure you know plenty of them and perhaps have one of your own. All of them are important; all of them impact families, friends and individuals. All of them share similar emotions, such as fear, anger, pain and sadness.

Please let me share about my sister, Donna. Donna has already faced two cancer diagnoses. She’s had surgery, chemotherapy, hormone therapy and radiation. She’s experienced lasting side effects from these therapies to this day. Her first battle was over 15 years ago with ovarian cancer. Five years ago she faced breast cancer and now she has a reoccurrence.

After several other opinions, testing and biopsies, she is scheduled to see her surgeon at Hershey Medical Center in early December and move forward with plans to surgically remove the cancer. This is a painful decision and not what she had hoped for. Who would?

Donna has also consulted with a wellness clinic that offers adjunctive therapies to her surgery plan. She has been following some of their plan for the past few months, as much as she has been able due to cost limitations. Due to the generous giving of many, she was able to have a blood test done that was sent to a lab in Greece(RGCC) giving her a long list of “tools” to use against her cancer; they tested her individual cancer cells against over 50 different substances to find out what the cell is sensitive to, thereby giving a plan as to what will fight her cancer best. Some of these “tools” include specific chemotherapy agents, specific medications, one particular estrogen blocker which her cancer doesn’t like, as well as a list of natural substances that will specifically fight against her cancer, keeping them from replicating and causing die off. There are additional therapies that RGCC offers as well. After her surgery, Donna would like to have a treatment called an SOT. This is a targeted therapy made from her own blood sample to target the cancer cells only; no other cells are damaged.

The SOT therapy is made in Greece at RGCC. The cost of one SOT is $3,000. She would also need a test to determine her number of “circulating cancer cells”, called a CTC. The cost of this is $1200. The goal is to get her CTC value lowered to the point that she is in remission and no longer needs further treatment. Until then, she would continue to have an SOT approximately every 4 months until she reaches that desired CTC value. Although there is a company in the USA that is working on something similar to what RGCC does, it is not fully operational at this time. Unfortunately, these treatments are not covered by insurance, thus the reason for sharing my sisters’ story and asking you for any financial help and prayers that you are able to give.

My sister is a very giving person; always eager to help anyone. She has a huge heart and often puts others before herself. I have many fond childhood memories with my sister and hope to have many more. We are more than sisters, we are true friends and I love her dearly, as everyone who knows her does. She is a believer is Jesus Christ as her Savior which is the most important thing! We come humble asking for any help that would get Donna the treatment she needs to continue to live life and be a blessing to others. May the Lord richly bless you.

Thank you.

Dawn ( her sister )
