It's Christmas and the phone rings.

"Are you Shira? I heard you might be able to help."

Since the brutal Hamas massacre of more than 1,200 people in southern Israel on October 7th, I have connected with several individuals and organizations who have been helping to meet important, life-saving needs. I have stewarded and distributed donations toward protective plate carriers, search-and-rescue vests, communication devices, knee pads and tactical clothing, and medical gear such as field bags, TPAK decompression needles, pulse oximeters, thermometers, oxygen bag-masks, CAT tourniquets and pocket first-aid kits. To date, with the help of many friends, we have been able to meet important needs valued at $77,900, request by request.

As of today's phone call, we are starting again, from scratch. We have been asked to provide just under $41,494 USD in medical gear, which includes combat gauze, bandages, medicines, medic scissors, medic pouches and headlamps. Of this, the highest priority items are tourniquets ($11,089.64) and personal bandages ($1,940.69).

Half-a-million people in Israel have been displaced from their homes for more than two months, and many of their men have left their families behind to keep Israel's borders safe, as Israel is attacked by enemies on multiple fronts, the Hamas terror organization in Gaza, the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen who are targeting the southern tip of Israel and the Lebanon-based Iranian proxy Hezbollah targeting northern Israel. A request for life-saving gear is no small thing - and it's urgent.
