The Trials of Tamara Lich Film

April 5th, 2025: Update - The trial outcome is not what we'd hoped. Our gratitude to you for your support is endless.

ROUND THREE: FREEDOM CONVOY DOCUMENTARY FUNDING

We’ve just returned from Ottawa, where the unthinkable happened. And it's more important than ever that we push to finish this project -- together.

Tamara Lich and Chris Barber were found guilty of mischief despite the fact that the Freedom Convoy was, by virtually all accounts, a peaceful protest. Chris was also convicted of a second count. I sat in the courtroom and witnessed it unfold, a moment in history that demands to be documented honestly and fearlessly. That’s what our film will do.

We’ve renamed it: Long Road Home: The True Story of Tamara Lich and Canada’s Freedom Convoy. The name reflects the journey we’ve all been on, one of truth, resilience, and hope. For reasons of creative confidentiality, we ask that you don't post this on social media.

Thanks to your generous support, we’ve completed filming and are now beginning to compile our rough cut. We’re working with a brilliant editor and weaving together powerful footage, interviews, citizen-shot clips, and recently uncovered evidence. Our team is dedicated and focussed.

This next stage is critical and we’re reaching out once more to ask for your help.

This is an independent project, made so far without studio or government backing: just truth, journalism, and your support.

One of our last days filming with Tamara in Alberta ended in a quiet moment on the snowy badlands, under a sky filled with Canada geese. She looked up, smiling with wonder. We captured that moment and many others that deserve to be seen.

Please consider contributing to help us bring this story to Canadians and to the world.

December 2nd, 2024 Updates:

Thanks so much to those of you who stepped up to help with the funding for our trip out west which will happen in about a week or so! My heart is full of gratitude and the film just keeps getting better. The details of Canada's Freedom Convoy story expose some ugly truths about this country, the meaning of democracy and the need for a fair and unbiased media. I'm learning more every day, including the heartbreak involved in just surviving what happened to the protesters in Ottawa.

We have an editor working and are starting the next round of funding now to cover the final production and begin the post-production process.

More updates to come. I'm putting my head down to prepare for our trip into the freezing but beautiful prairies where some of our shooting will be outdoors during challenging weather, I suspect. But happy for the opportunity. So much gratitude to you all.

-----------

August 3rd: the most serious charge of conspiracy to murder that underpinned the invocation of the Emergencies Act has failed -- dropped by the Crown against two defendants and rejected by a jury for the other two. This is a game-changing verdict and totally reframes the convoy takedown.

Thank you so very much to all who have contributed to this project so far! Your support means we can do the filming and reporting that legacy media won't do -- allowing the full story of the Ottawa Freedom Convoy to be told without fear of editorial interference. This is a next round of fundraising for upcoming field shoots involving multiple locations around this great country and the hiring of a topnotch editor to begin crafting the film. The updated trailer includes new material that exposes the aftermath of the Emergencies Act and what happened when the trucks went home.

A broken foot slowed me down for a couple of months but back at it -- following the tale of a Canadian movement that inspired the world and revealing the powerful forces that worked against it.

We've travelled thousands of miles and interviewed many new characters. Canadians are still traumatized by the violent take-down of the convoy, a blue-collar initiated protest aimed at ending vaccine mandates. It brought hope and unity to a country divided by heavy handed public health edicts and inflammatory rhetoric from our national leaders.

More than two years later, working class protestors are still being prosecuted in expensive trials that require constant fundraising efforts. Legacy media often champions the cause of dissidents from their own political class and causes but are silent about tactics they would otherwise criticise.

At the centre of it all is Tamara Lich, an unstoppable force who still fights for the truckers by headlining fundraisers, criss-crossing the country offering moral support and friendship. She is tireless but there are times the wear and tear begins to creep in. Frequently by her side on these missions is Chris Barber, the trucker whose rig, Big Red transported them to the nation's capital where history would unfold.

Our goal is to premier the film on the third anniversary of the convoy arrival in Ottawa. We would be so grateful if you would come along for the ride!

I bring decades of production, journalism and storytelling experience to this project. My last documentary venture was for Amazon Studios -- a high profile, five-part series called Falling for a Killer. My partner, Jacqueline Bynon has produced documentary series for premier broadcasters and streamers around the world.

Thank you Tamara Lich and everyone who participated and supported the Freedom Convoy. I will never forget waving the Canadian flag in Enfield, Nova Scotia so filled with hope as we cheered the truckers on their way to Ottawa to hopefully have a conversation with Prime Minister Trudeau or an elected official. Thank you Trish for documenting Tamara's story and covering the Freedom Convoy trials.

Thank you Trish for working on this important project. It is nearly impossible to get someone on the other side of this subject to read a book, but a documentary film is more likely to be viewed. I was on a family ski trip the day the EA was declared. I watched Ms Freeland gleefully nod that they were going to freeze bank accounts of any one who donated. I was genuinely terrorized.
