Nathaniel Burchat was a beloved son, brother, uncle and friend to many. After high school graduation he proudly joined the Canadian Military in the footsteps of his father and three older brothers. During his time he served overseas.
Tragically, Nathaniel faced significant challenges in his later years. He suffered from epilepsy which caused reoccurring seizures and his serious mental health issues worsened after the death of his father in October 2023. He was medically discharged from the military in January 2024 and stayed in Edmonton.
His family was horrified after being informed of his death by homicide in the Edmonton Remand Centre on December 18, 2024. His loved ones are heartbroken and seeking justice, healing and closure.
The purpose of this fundraiser is to lessen the financial burden for repatriation, funeral and burial, the total cost of which is estimated to be around $30,000-$40,000 CAD. This includes, but is not limited to:
- all expenses which could be charged by the local funeral home in Ontario
- all expenses which could be charged by the liaison funeral home in Edmonton
- transportation of Nathaniel’s body from Edmonton to Ontario
- any associated costs directly incurred in the process of repatriation, funeral and burial.
- Additionally, due to the criminal circumstances of his passing, these funds may also be used for legal support as the family seeks answers and justice for Nathaniel.
Any funds in excess will be exhausted by donation to VETS Canada (Veterans Emergency Transition Services).
We also ask in your kindness for prayers for the repose of Nathaniel’s soul. Specifically, Catholic Masses, rosaries and divine mercy chapelets.
Thank you all for your generosity in your prayer and contributions, big or small. They are each appreciated.
The Burchat Family
My heart breaks for the loss of Nathaniel, he deserved so much more than this. We will offer Masses and daily rosaries for the repose of his soul and the Burchat family. May God bless you and may His love and mercy shine a light in this tragedy
“Your faith hath healed you” - Jesus Although I don’t know Nathaniel nor his wonderful, supportive family, God does. The power of God lives in our hearts. We can ignore it or we can act on it. We must always act to serve other sons and daughters of God. Nathaniel dedicated his life to serve the Canadian people. He deserves to be honoured. God bless, Anthony
