What should have been a simple flight home turned into a nightmare for David Bennett and Jane Wilcox when David was wrongfully arrested at Punta Cana Airport (PUJ) on March 7, 2025.
Customs officers detained him over a suitcase that was not his, bearing a similar—but incorrect—name. Despite proving the mistake, David was separated from his wife, interrogated, and jailed under horrific conditions. He was forced to navigate a legal system where he didn’t even speak the language and was never offered translation services.
Back in Canada, Jane has been working with a team of supporters, family and friends around the clock to secure David’s release. They are:
✅ Engaging Global Affairs Canada and the Canadian Embassy in the Dominican Republic.
✅ Connecting with government officials, including MP Karina Gould’s office and Foreign Affairs
✅ Working with legal representation in both Canada and the Dominican Republic to build a strong case.
✅ Working with media outlets to raise awareness and bring attention to this wrongful arrest.
David was granted bail on March 10, but he is not allowed to leave the country while his case is being processed. His next hearing is 15-20 days from March 10 and we need to keep the momentum going.

📢 Share – The more awareness, the greater the pressure to resolve this.
🙏 Support – Send your positive thoughts, follow updates, spread the word, and stand with David.
This is a clear injustice. David should never have been arrested, and he should not have to fight this alone.
Let’s bring him home.
