Hi Birmingham! My name is Mary Noble Braden for those of you who do not know me. I was raised here in Birmingham and moved to Black Mountain, NC 20 year ago with my husband. I've built my life and family there. I am leaning on my hometown to send loving prayers and/or contributions to Western NC due to the effects of Hurricane Helene. We are planning to take back food, tools, generators, chain saws, gas cans, propane stoves, dog food, etc. Some power is being restored but it will be months before water and sewer is back on. We are putting together a small crew that can help folks in need whether it's setting up a generator to keep their food cool, helping them remove trees from their homes and driveway, or any day to day needs individuals are needing support with. I appreciate your love and support towards restoring the people and town of Black Mountain. Will keep you posted on the continued progress. With love and gratitude, Mary Noble Braden

Dear Birmingham friends, I am so grateful for all of your prayers and donations for Black Mountain, NC. Some of you are complete strangers, some of you I know from my Advent, Altamont, or Mtn Brook days. Nonetheless, I was moved by each and everyone's support! I connected with so many folks that I have not talked to in years. Thank you for wrapping my Black Mtn community and me in so much love.
We are on day 22 here after the storm. Most folks have power and some water but no drinking water. The grocery store and gas stations are the only things open here in Black Mtn and Swannanoa. Several churches and restaurants have collaborated to feed the town. Some restaurants are starting to open here in the next couple of days, for now you can meet up at all the places that are feeding the town for social hour. There are so many roads washed out so if folks live in more remote places they have to have supplies helicoptered in.
The amount of traffic and trucks is nothing I have seen before in this small town. So many folks are working tirelessly to get utilities and roads back together. We have 1000s of volunteers here helping folks get their homes or what's left of their home back together.
The common denominator here is love and support. When you pass someone in town it's not just a hello, it's a long hug and a lot of talk of how we can support one another. The grace of God is here. You can fill it in the people and in the town.
We have been in contact with 2 different families that have lost their homes. I am meeting with them next week to give them the funds that were raised in the Birmingham to Black Mtn Support Fund. Once I meet with them I plan on sending everyone an update.
In love and peace ~ Mary Noble
