In July 2022, Naisha Chinnery, a committed Christian, lost a job opportunity with Kaiser Foundation Health Plan after requesting a religious accommodation for the COVID-19 vaccine mandate. Despite being hired as an Assistant at the Hearing Center in Falls Church, Virginia, Kaiser rescinded the offer when Naisha’s deeply held beliefs led her to seek an exemption.

Naisha’s case is about the fundamental right to religious freedom—a right that should protect individuals from being forced to choose between their faith and their livelihood. She believes that her body is sacred and must remain pure as a temple of the Holy Spirit. Despite sharing her beliefs sincerely, Naisha faced relentless questioning and was ultimately denied an accommodation.

She is now taking legal action against Kaiser for their discriminatory refusal to respect her beliefs, bringing claims under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act. The case is currently in federal court in Virginia.
