Brad McDowell, a dedicated registered nurse since 2008, has spent over a decade caring for patients in Intensive Care Units, Emergency Rooms, and most recently, the Behavioral Health Unit at Winchester Medical Center, part of Valley Health. His commitment to patient care has been unwavering—but his career took a devastating turn when he was unlawfully terminated due to his religious beliefs.
In July 2021, Valley Health implemented a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for all employees. While exemptions for medical and religious reasons were supposedly offered, Brad’s sincere request for a religious accommodation was denied—twice. Despite adhering to safety protocols and holding a role with minimal patient contact, Brad was terminated on September 22, 2021. This discriminatory treatment has left him without his livelihood and facing significant financial and emotional hardship.
Brad’s case is about more than just his personal rights—it’s about defending the fundamental principle that no one should face workplace discrimination for their sincerely held religious beliefs. Valley Health’s inconsistent application of its exemption policy highlights a troubling bias, as accommodations were granted to others while Brad’s was unjustly denied.
Since 2022, Brad has been represented by the Lloyd Law Group, PLLC, a firm dedicated to protecting civil rights and religious liberty. With their help, Brad has filed a complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and continues to seek justice for the discrimination he endured.
But this fight is far from over. Legal battles are expensive, and Brad needs your help to cover the costs of seeking justice.
