Thank you for taking a moment to read about Project Farmland!
Our goal is to raise money to acquire a parcel of farmland around 50-100 acres to establish homes on 1-2 acre lots, forming a 'neighborhood' of small, affordable farms (with a target price around $450,000). By removing the barrier to entry for small families we can help them achieve the dream of owning and working a small farm.
At Project Farmland, our vision is to build a community-centered approach to agriculture. By consolidating critical assets like equipment and greenhouse facilities, we equip each farm with the necessary tools for success, mitigating the high overhead costs that often burden independent operations. We believe our community of small farms will flourish through affordability, shared resources, and communal support. This cooperative approach encompasses more than just material resources; it embodies a shared knowledge base, mutual support, and a collective commitment to sustainable practices that benefit not just our resident farms but the surrounding communities as well. Through this unique blend of individual and communal farming projects within our community, utilizing cutting-edge agricultural research, we're laying the groundwork for a comprehensive ecosystem of growth, sustainability, and resilience.
We love the idea of community and believe it really does ‘take a village.' But our ambition extends further. Our pilot project will embrace a comprehensive sustainability plan, forging a prosperous avenue for small farms through state-of-the-art agricultural practices. By managing waste, we transform the majority of the byproducts from our living and farming activities into valuable resources. Converting organic waste through our biochar, compost and vermiculture initiatives closes the cycle of our ecosystem, thereby enriching the soil that feeds our crops. This closed-loop methodology is key to our zero-waste ethos, ensuring farm life contributes constructively to our environment.
As mentioned above, central to Project Farmland are cornerstone initiatives like The Greenhouse, Project Vermiculture, The Orchard, and Beekeeping, each integral to boosting biodiversity, pollination, and soil health. These projects not only contribute to the ecosystem’s vitality, but also serve as educational pillars for sustainable farming practices.
As we lay the groundwork for this project somewhere near Boise, Idaho, our immediate goal is to procure seed funding. This crucial step will enable us to establish our non-profit status, create promotional materials, purchase media to provide awareness so we can move forward toward the land purchase and developmental stages. This endeavor is more than an investment in property—it's an investment in a sustainable future, championed by a community devoted to sustainable living and shared farming.
Join us as we plant the seeds of transformation as we address the growing concerns over farmland reduction and the need for healthy, farm-to-table food options.
