Liam Houck was diagnosed with Stage 4 Melanoma in January of 2023 and his inner strength and ability to fight this disease has been incredibly inspiring to watch. Anyone who knows Liam understands his fiery independence and passion for life but witnessing his handling of this diagnosis for the past 1.5 years has been nothing short of incredible. He will simply not let this disease drag him down. He continues to smile through it all, spreading laughter and happiness anywhere he can. After his diagnosis, Liam became a volunteer at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia where he currently works with pediatric cancer patients; playing video games, board games, and just chatting with young patients helping to take their mind off their own illness. His reaction to this truly difficult situation was not to focus on himself, but to get out in his community and support others facing struggle - stunningly selfless. Liam is also a volunteer coach for the Central Bucks West Freshman football team because of his desire to share his passion for the sport with the next generation. He is the type of man that would give a community member the shirt off his back if he could help with their struggle.

Unfortunately, a recent brain scan showed that the Melanoma has spread to Liam’s brain, and he now requires a more aggressive treatment. Liam’s doctors at Fox Chase have referred him to the University of Pennsylvania’s Proton Craniospinal Radiation Therapy – a relatively new, experimental, and expensive treatment.
