I am Alaric Bose’s sister, Gina. My parents, sisters, and I chose to set up this funding for my brother and sister-in-law in light of so many reaching out wanting to help!

As some of you know, on Easter morning (April 17, 2022), Mary and Alaric were attending Mass at ICC when Mary started growing more suspicious that she was having contractions. Mary was not due until July 20th, therefore, being only 26 weeks pregnant with baby Leo, Alaric rushed Mary to see her OB in Blair, Nebraska to find out if these were contractions and to figure out what to do from there. She received medication to try to slow the contractions, but her body was too far into labor to be stopped. Leo was born in about two short hours, and was quickly handed over to the Children’s medical team to get him stabilized with some extra oxygen. Once stable he was transferred by ambulance to Bergan Mercy Medical Center. Mary was not able to join him down there until she herself was checked out and confirmed to be stable, and then she was also transported by ambulance to be at the same hospital as her new born son. Alaric and Mary were able to reunite with Leo at the hospital -- but only for visits throughout the day as he currently has to remain in the NICU until they can be sure he's stable enough to eat and breathe without any proximate need for medical assistance.

Meanwhile, Alaric and Mary try to keep the life of their older son, Emerick, as normal as possible between hospital visits and time at home.

Leo is now just over a month old. He has remained with a little supplemental oxygen to help keep him growing and stable, and he was able to have his PICC line taken out such that he is solely taking in fortified milk from his mommy now!

The most amazing part of this story came after Mary's OB sent parts of the placenta in for testing. He said it was by the grace of God that Leo got out when he did as there appeared to have been inflammation in the placenta, which would have likely been caused by a blood clot in the placenta.

Leo has been making good progress overall. Mary and Alaric are now able to hold Leo daily during visits so that he can hear their voices and feel their touch. The nurses say it works wonders for the little ones!

As well as things are currently going, this is going to be a long journey for their family. Leo's older brother Emerick, who is 1.5, is unable to visit Leo due to an extended RSV season, etc. That being said, Mary and Alaric are doing their best to spend time between both boys.

Mary has to pump frequently as that is the only way Leo is able to have breastmilk, and needing frequent childcare for Emerick in order to make it over to the hospital to give Leo the motherly love and affection he needs to continue excelling toward the day he can come home!

We are raising these funds in hopes to help them with the medical costs of the NICU, ambulance services and hospital stays for both Mary and Leo, and cover some cost of gas that is needed to make these back and forth trips.

Any amount is greatly appreciated; however, they most importantly appreciate your prayers for their family and their health and safety. Alaric and Mary are asking "that all prayers be made through the intercession of Leo's patron the Servant of God Leo Heinrichs who left Germany during the persecution of the Kulturkampf at the same time as Alaric's family -- and who has certainly been praying for his little namesake and coming through with special favors from our Heavenly Father by the grace of God!" They especially would appreciate if everyone reading this would offer up one Memorare for Leo and their family.
