Mr. James’s surviving wife, Kyung In Yi Sylvester, on behalf of herself and the surviving members of Mr. James’s family, have filed suit against his medical providers, and they need assistance covering the costs of litigating his case, which involves extensive analysis and testimony from a top medical expert to help support their case.

The suit alleges that his medical providers prescribed a dangerous combination of psychiatric medications without proper oversight or follow-up care by multiple medical providers. According to the lawsuit, these medications, which were known to have dangerous side effects and interactions, ultimately led to a psychotic episode and Mr. James's death. The lawsuit filed by his widow, Kyung In Yi Sylvester, seeks to hold these providers accountable and to obtain justice for Baraka, his wife, and their children.

Baraka was not just a father and a husband; he was a pillar of his community, a veteran advocate, and someone who dedicated his life to helping others fight depression and suicidal ideation. The lawsuit describes how the medical providers—psychiatrists, and pharmacies—failed him when he needed them the most, prescribing powerful drugs without adequate monitoring and ignoring signs of his deteriorating mental health.
