Imogene Beckwith Memorial & Final Medical Support

Imogene Lee Peppersack Beckwith, 84, of Ranger, Georgia, passed away Friday March 14th, 2025. She went peacefully, surrounded by loving family after an extended illness.

My mother, Imogene, was blessed to have spent very few days in her life being ill. She was an extremely strong, resilient woman. She endured radiation treatments to beat breast cancer in her mid-70s, fully recovered remarkably fast from a nearly fatal artery blockage at age 81, and maintained her energy, mobility & independence after that until her health began its sudden downturn in late 2024.

After two hospital admissions in December for low hemoglobin & weakness, colon cancer was diagnosed. Surgery was performed in January of 2025, but the weaking of her body left her susceptible to other issues. She began experiencing congestive heart failure symptoms with fluid build up in her lungs two weeks after her cancer surgery. She was admitted to Gordon Hospital for a short stay to treat that, but was sent home (probably too soon) only to be re-admitted with kidney failure issues and a worsened CHF condition. She had contracted pneumonia as well. She was re-admitted to the hospital on her 84th birthday and spent a full month in the hospital trying to recover. Unfortunately, her body was unable to shake the lung issue and she passed away on March 14th.

Consequently, the multiple hospital stays and range of tests and procedures she has undergone have racked up a large pile of medical bills (two Medicare deductible payments for 2024 & 2025, surgery costs, etc.)  which are just now starting to roll in. Her passing means that her income also stops. She had no survining spouse, so there will be no Social Security death benefits paid out.

Finally, her final expenses were not yet provided for. She had begun to save back money in preparation for this, but that has been used for medications and other household expenses, and will be required to pay off her last debts now that her benefits have stopped.

In addition, during this 4-1/2 month time span, I, as her primary support person was also forced to spend a good amount of time away from work, as well as driving literally thousands of miles to and from doctors & hosptials. This has left me with a personal shortage of income not involving her debts, but will require me to dip well into my personal savings to cover the final expenses.

So, although we are not often inclinded to ask for help in such matters, my family and I would appreciate any support, large or small, that you would feel compassionate enough to donate toward these expenses.

Note that I will be detailing out what expenses we have as they are revealed to me, and will update this campaign with that information. The goal I set for it may change, and I will close the campaign if we reach equity with expenses.
