Millions of Americans are afflicted with Alzheimer's disease. Worldwide, the number of people with it is in the tens of millions.

I was the primary caregiver for my mother for over 6 years, and I saw Alzheimer's disease slowly take her life.

Each of us will eventually die from some cause, but Alzheimer's is a lonely, undignified, frightening way to pass one's final years.

There are many people working diligently on a cure, but that cure may not come fast enough for the people who have Alzheimer's today. We need to accelerate this search.

What I want to do is to convince people who have been diagnosed with Alzheiemer's disease, or convince their caregivers, that waiting for someone else to save them is a low-probability wager. Their best bet is to become active participants in the search for a cure. If one half of one percent of Americans in that situation agree and join in, that would be over 30,000 brains turned on like searchlights, looking for anything that will help.

That won't guarantee anything, but in my opinion it's better to fight than to wait for help that may never arrive. Even if all we found was a way for people to remain independent for an additional two or three years, multiply that by the number of people who are newly diagnosed with it each year, and that's a lot of benefit.

Science is a methodical search for knowledge, and it is also the knowledge gained therefrom.

It requires attention to detail, and diligent record keeping.

It does not require years of study. It doesn't require a certificate, or a degree, or a license. Scientific methods don't require anyone else's permission for you to use them.

Science is not a religion with a priesthood that can exclude you from it. It is our common heritage. It belongs to everyone.

If these new researchers adopt a scientific outlook, I believe we can acheive great things.

It may be that there is already a cure. Dr. Dale E. Bredesen described one in his book The End of Alzheimer's, and elaborated on it in The End of Alzheimer's Program. This potential solution does not use a patentable drug that could make a drug company richer, so it is not promoted by the media or the government. However, those books are an excellent place for people to start from. They may even contain the solution. The more people who test those methods, the closer we can get to finding out if they work, and the more the knowledge of them will spread.

In November I began work on a website called bethecure.me. I want to use it to get out my message, and for it to eventually become a repository of data that these new researchers collect. Treatments that work for someone can be shared online, and others can try them to see if they benefit themselves.

Eventually I would like to give an AI access to the database in order for it to look for conclusions that people might have missed.

With tens of thousands more people actively searching, maybe we can act in time to help the people who have Alzheimer's disease today.

The reason I'm asking for $25,000 is to provide funds for setting up a non-profit company, and to be able to afford higher quality virtual servers to host the website, and to allow me to work full-time on the website for four months.  I'm also running this campaign on GoFundMe.com in order to increase the chances of getting to that goal.

As I make progress I will report it. After a few months, if I have done my work well, new goals can be set.

If I do not get any support, I'm still going to continue, it will just take longer.

What I am asking for is your help to allow me, and others, to make a difference faster, because people with Alzheimer's disease today do not have time on their side.
