Melissa began seeking medical treatment in June for ovarian cancer. On Tuesday, August 12th she was taken to the ER in Merced, CA for abdominal pain. It was discovered she needed an extremely high risk emergency surgery. She was then airlifted to CRMC in Fresno, CA where the surgery took place.
Melissa came home around 3:45pm on Wednesday, August 21st. We spent the evening outside enjoying the beautiful weather and chatting with her. She had a fairly uneventful night with minimal pain. Around 7:30am on Thursday she stopped responding. The hospice nurse let us know that we should gather the family to say our goodbyes. We opened our home to all her friends and family. The house was filled all day with a diverse crowd of people, such a touching testimony to all the lives she impacted. It was a beautiful day even amid the sorrow. Melissa was peaceful the entire time and took her last breath at 10:10pm surrounded by loved ones. As Melissa's family, we feel blessed that you chose to join us on our remarkable adventure. Her life can be honored by following her example of unwavering trust in Jesus and her spirit of hospitality. "...All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us." -J.R.R.Tolkien

We just finished up our meeting with the hospital team. Based on their recommendations and Melissa’s own desires, we’ve decided to bring her home with hospice care. We’re not giving up hope of healing but we’ve reached the end of what medical/hospital systems can do. Thank you for all the continued prayers. We felt Gods peace and direction. Once she’s home and settled she’ll welcome visitors. However please reach out to Mark or myself before showing up unannounced.
