My financial worries all started when my then girlfriend took our son to the Philippines, where she is from. This was supposed to be a 3-month trip so her parents could get to know their grandson. That was my understanding, at least. Their stay ended up being 18 months, due to his mother refusing to bring him back. Instead, she used him as a meal ticket, she threatened that I wouldn’t get to see him unless I was willing to send her money every month. And every month she asked for more and more money.

This was a time when my place of work shut down. I ended up being unemployed for a longer period of time, and needed to borrow money so that I wouldn’t lose contact with my son.

After 18 months had passed, I agreed to send her a large sum of money so she would finally bring our son back. She returned our son, but it was clear that our relationship was over due to everything she had put our son and me through. She went back to the Philippines, leaving our son with me. She signed custody of our son over to me.

As soon as he came back, he started going to kindergarten. About 7 months after I got him back, the kindergarten notified Sosial Services because I didn’t personally pick up my son often enough. I worked shifts and needed to work evenings at regular intervals. I had hired someone, whom I knew was dependable, to pick him up and take care of him until I got home from work. The Sosial Services in my region didn’t think that was good enough, especially since I was a single parent, and demanded that I quit my job. I didn’t feel that I had a choice. It was either quitting my job or losing my son. I made the only choice I knew was right, I quit my job. This caused my financial situation to spiral completely out of control, and my loans ballooned.

After several years of close scrutiny Social Services took me to court, wanting to take my son away from me, even though I had complied with all of their demands. They lost the case. But they didn’t let go entirely. They monitored our situation for nine years before they finally gave up and left us in peace.

My life is finally getting back on track. But after 12 years of what can only be described as a nightmare, my financial situation is dark. I finally have a job that pays me enough to take care of my son, who is now a teenager. But due to everything I’ve been through, and all the debts that have accumulated, I don’t know if I’ll ever be financially free. I have made this profile as a last-ditch effort to get my financial freedom back.

My son means everything to me. I would love to be able to help him get a good education and a good start in life. As hard as this is for me, I have come to the realization that I can’t do this alone and need help to get control over my financial circumstances. I would deeply appreciate and be forever grateful for any help I can get.
