Back in early 2003, our ministry was approached by Grace Kanji, founder of the Great Commission Centre in Manyatta, Kenya - an AIDS Orphan Outreach. Her sisters had both died, leaving her to care for the orphans they left behind. She found there were many orphans in her village, so she organized other Christians in her village and began a work of service.
But they soon realized that they came from different church backgrounds and beliefs. Not having any local ministers, Grace sought to find someone who would serve as their pastor. Here is one of her earliest emails, dated 02 May, 2003:
"So we are just starting and we want to know the truth right from the beginning. In our congregation we are 35 members - the active members, though sometimes you can get 50 members, even 60, but the active members are 35. Some of them were in Anglican Church, others Pentecostals and others African Independent Pentecostal Church of East Africa (AIPCEA). You can see we are very much mixed so we cannot know the truth. That’s why I requested to know the truth of the Word of God from your church. May God bless you as you teach us"
We accepted the work and He has blessed us ever since. In 2019 we planted a new congregation on the west side in Kisumu, Kenya and also had several Church of God congregations join us from their previous affiliations. We have purchased Bibles, chairs, computers and printers, and sound equipment for services. In addition, there are schools fees for the children (books, uniforms, class fees, etc.), plus necessities such as food, clothing, shoes, blankets and jackets. Kenya has been plagued by years of droughts followed by floods. Food is always scarce and expensive. These congregations need support from believers like you. Please help us in bringing the Good News of God's Plan to these people, who are truly in need of hearing some Good News!
God bless you,
Pastor Terrence Bruns - Great Commission Church of God
