Sorry guys! This got a little crazy when Tammy got sick and this didn’t get updated.

Wednesday, Aug 22

Tammy was admitted directly to the ICU for septic infection of her kidney. So Todd was bouncing between two hospitals until their oldest son flew in and took over Tammy’s care.

Thursday Aug 24

Abigail is still trending upwards! She is uncomfortable with her vent, and when they move her so they have her under slow drip pain medication. They still feel a lot of meds are not metabolized out yet, so responsiveness is still to come. There are good signs that her liver is kicking back on because of lab numbers and the fact that she is tolerating nutrition. Her bilirubin is higher, but the liver team said it will likely go up as it starts working. A lot of stuff is stuck because the liver took a huge hit with the toxins.. Initially it will go higher as it moves the stuff out. They say the liver is generally slow to recover, but these signs are that it is fine.

I’m ready to go see Tammy. Christopher flew in last night to help out and spent the night at UW. Tammy is getting a stent through her back to drain the infected kidney. She is in great pain, the meds only take the edge off, so sleep was fleeting. Similar to Abigail, as they kill off the little bugs they leave toxicity behind, so it will get worse before better. Hang in there sweetheart!

Friday, Aug 25

Abigail has started to do the #2. I know it’s TMI, and she would be embarrassed about it being here. So smile and let it move past you. Ok, I’m done trying to be punny. Really though, it was a huge goal achieved. That will help her the billi go count down. They gave the order to have her chest tubes removed today so that is good. Kind of like on our boat, the less holes you have the better off you are. Still watching for the responsiveness. Pray for her to find her way. This kind of trauma is hard on everything and we are waiting for her to heal and wake up in time. They switched to Fentanyl instead of Dilauded because fentanyl should metabolize better without the liver. She is more responsive but not by much. She has a lot of toxins and meds to burn up,

How’s Tammy? I actually don’t know. I called her this morning and she groggily answered the phone. I said are you sleeping? She slurringly mumbled back what I took to be a yes. So I said okay I will let you sleep. Goodbye. I then called Christopher and his update was she had a rough beginning of the night, and a better last half of the night. I may know more later.

From Christopher: Tammy had several severe POTS attacks beginning early in the night. Eventually meds and stuff got figured out. I fell asleep around 3 am and was only woken for minor things after that. At rounds the doctors said they don't think she needs to be in ICU anymore.

Mom is still needing pain meds to keep the discomfort at a level that allows her to sleep. She told me she didn’t sleep very much the latter of the night. She is tired and drowsy right now. She has asked to not sleep more than 4 hour increments because the pain becomes too much after that point.
