It was recently said, "Adopting a child who needs a home will NOT change the entire world. But for that child who finds a loving home, his or her entire world WILL be changed."

That's what we're hoping to do. In addition to growing and enriching our family, we look forward to seeing the world, destiny, and life trajectory of a child change completely before our eyes.

We are a Christian family of three living in Springfield, Missouri. For a few months we felt God leading us to open our home, hearts, and lives to adopt a little girl whose family had either abandoned her, or who could not care for her.

But from where?

As a journalist and licensed Assemblies of God minister, Dan has had the opportunity to travel to 40 countries of the world. On these travels Dan has seen the ugly, brutal, heart-wrenching reality that human life is regarded as cheap in many places. And sadly the most cast aside, forgotten, abused, and long suffering ones who daily know and live this reality are little children.

Tara always joked (half joked) when Dan would depart for another country, "Please know you can bring home one of those little ones because we'll give him or her the home and love they need." While traveling, Dan often anguished over the sheer number of little ones without homes, families, or love. But literally bringing one home was not an option.

Finally, in 2016, after considering numerous options for adopting within the United States and other foreign nations, the country of BULGARIA in eastern Europe became the best option for our family.

So we decided to pursue the adoption of a Burlgarian girl between the ages of 2-5 (the age at time of adoption), within the next two years.

On October 31, 2016 our application as international adoptive parents was approved by MLJ Adoptions, a Hague Accredited adoption agency based in Indianapolis, Indiana.

A coupke years later MLJ Adoptions merged with Nightlight Christian Adoptions. In December 2019, after 3 years waiting for a referral, we were approached by NIghtlight about a "waiting child" in Colombia named Wendy.

Long story short, we changed to the Colombia program, updated our dossier and home study and have now been officially matched with Wendy! We are waiting for the official referral to come any day now. We will need to raise the final costs required for a 3-5 week trip to Colombia to finalize the adoption.

So now the process starts moving toward the next stage. And it is far beyond our ability to manage or accomplish on our own. We know we will lean heavily upon family, friends, and complete strangers to help us reach our fundraising goals--which are significant.

We are willing to sacrifice our own resources and we are willing to work hard to make this happen. But even though we know this will be one of the hardest things we've ever done, we know that little girl has been waiting for a loving family to welcome her into their home. And every ounce of effort and every dollar invested is worth it!

So we invite anyone with a heart for growing families, for children who have been abandoned or neglected, and for "the least of these" to partner with us in prayer and financial assistance.

No gift amount is too small. If you can chip in $5 or $10 every so often, or one time, that will help us. If you, your family, or your church or buiness would like to help with $50, $100, $500 or more that will be a tremendous blessing.

We want to offer thanks in advance for every person, family, church and/or business who will walk with us on this journey!

Giving through GiveSendGo is fast, easy, and secure. GiveSendGo is offered to non-profit causes at no cost. That means all contributions go towards the project and not overhead. Update #6

After 28 months we are still waiting for a referral. We updated the home study and USCIS paperwork recently and are praying for an imminent referral to come from Bulgaria. Thx to everyone who continues to pray and contribute! The only funds we have left to raise are for the final trip to and from Bulgaria, when we'll bring our daughter home.

Well it has been a long time since we left an update. But we have just been in the waiting process. We were a little discouraged to learn that we will most likely be closer to the 30-month wait time for a child placement. We had hoped for 24 months, but these things are never exact, and it really does need to be GOD'S timing. So the wait continues. Currently we are in month 19 of the post-approval wait period.

We are now renewed in our home study, NCIS (immigration) status, and ALL the legal/adoption agency fees have been successfully raised and sent in. That is a relief! The only fundraising left to do is $7,000 for international travel (2 trips). Thank you to everyone who is cheering for us, has contributed, and given us much support this year. God Bless You All!

What an awesome response from so many friends and family! Today we can confirm that we have successfully raised cash and commitments that fully cover all the legal, immigration, adoption agency, and social services fees! That is more than $16,000 of the total $31,000 that we need to raise. The remaining funds we need to raise are for international travel expenses (two trips). It is so nice to know that the main fees are taken care of and that, when we finally get our placement, we will be able to utilize donations for travel. The first trip is expected to cost about $5,000 and the final trip (with all 3 of us going, and 4 returning!!!) will cost around $10,000. Thank you so much for standing beside us and helping us along on this journey!

Update #3

It has been quite a long time since our last update. However, this will be brief.

So far we have been waiting for 9 months for a child referral from Bulgaria. So far we are down to just about $8,500 in actual cash needed to complete the adoption. This includes the second (final) trip to Bulgaria to bring our daughter home, the final legal processes in the U.S. and in Bulgaria, and the last series of home visits by Lutheran Family and Children Services after the adoption is completed.

We continue to trust and believe that God will help us raise the needed funds and bring us the eciting news of our referral veru soon.

We are just days away from sending out our "dossier" to the Bulgarian government. This is our introduction to the authorities in Bulgaria and marks the beginning of the waiting process for a child placement.

The dossier involved fingerprinting, background checks, financial evaluations, the complete homestudy which was done earlier, profile information, photos of our family and home, medical records, and dozens upon dozens of notarizations and "apostilling" (another level of notarization).

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this adoption journey physically and financially. We can't do this without your help!

Our home study is complete. Yay! We are now going through some secondary adoption and cultural training and instruciton while we wait for our "dossier" to be completed. After this is done, the dossier will be submitted to the Bulgarian government for review.

The "dossier" is a document that provides the Bulgarian government and adoption officials with all the pertinent information about us as individuals and as a family. It is a very important step in the process.

Very soon, our fundraising efforts will need to go into overdrive as each incremental fundraising goal line will become more and more urgent. Thank you to everyone who is continuing to help us!
