Our homeschool group started a Skeet team last year, but little did we know the obstacles that we would face. Between the pandemic, crashing economy, and ammo shortages we have been lucky to be able to shoot. In our first year, with everyone providing their own weapons/equipment we were able to place 2nd in the state, have three that made individual top 3 by gender, and two that made it onto the All-State team. This year we are poised to do even better, however we haven't been able to raise money through the local businesses. We have come across some who will not donate anything to a religious organization, some will not donate to us because we are a homeschool, and others simply don't have the money to spare.
Right now, it takes approximately $250 ($160 in ammo alone) to start a season with us. My goal is to get that down to $0. We had several kids whose were wanting to join, but their parents couldn't afford it. If we are able to raise this money, the first thing I will buy is a training tool that will help our athletes reach their fullest potential. Any money left will be used to provide the team with ammo. In the event we raise a lot more money, I would love to buy competition level shotguns for our top shooters, but also beginner level ones so new kids would be able to use them. I would also like to purchase our kids a vest with our school's logo on it so we will look and feel like a team when we go to the state tournament and possibly Nationals.
This isn't just a sport though, I have seen rambunctious pre-teens turn into serious young men. Please pray about this, and if God leads you to help us, we will be eternally grateful as these kids deserve some normalcy after this last year.
