I am trying to raise money to bring my sister Stacie and her family home for cancer treatment. Stacie and I were the only children to missionary/pastor parents and we have always been an extremely close-knit family. Stacie and I remained close into adulthood, and the man she married became one of my best friends as well. We spent every holiday and every vacation together as a family, and our children became just as close as we were. In 2007, Stacie's son Cayden, who was two years old, was diagnosed with advanced Neuroblastoma while on a well visit. He had a tumor, they were told, and the prognosis was not good. One week later Cayden passed away. We were all obviously devastated, and picking up the pieces to move on was daunting to say the least. Our pain, however, was not nearly as intense as Stacie and Ken's.  Their relationship together and their faith that Cayden was with Jesus was what brought them through, but they felt that they needed a change in scenery to move forward. A move west was what they determined, and in 2008 they moved from Upstate New York to Idaho. It's been 12 years since they moved, and losing them to the degree that we had them in our lives before has been very difficult for our families. I have 6 children and Stacie and Ken have four besides Cayden, and flying across the country is a very expensive proposition, neither of our families having a lot of money. Last week Stacie went in to see the doctor after having felt a lump in her pelvic/hip area. Doctors were unsure as to an exact diagnosis, but felt sure that cancer of some sort was the culprit. They have now determined that stage 3 cervical cancer is what she has, and immediate radiation and/or chemotherapy is necessary to keep the cancer from spreading. They have been driving back and forth from Sandpoint Idaho to Spokane Washington, and after much discussion together and with their healthcare providers they feel that Stacie's best chance for recovery is home with her family and Ken's family for encouragement and support. They have already spent a lot of money in expenses, fuel and in making preparation to move back east. They currently rent and so have no house to sell with which to help offset the cost of both the move and to settle in New York once they have returned for treatment. We are asking you to prayerfully consider supporting our family in bringing Stacie and Ken and their children home and to help offset the many financial strains that have come upon them already and that will undoubtedly continue to grow. Any amount will help and we also ask that regardless of whether or not you are able to give, that you would keep Stacie and her family in urgent prayer for healing, or for God's guiding hand to give the doctors extra wisdom in treating her, and for peace. Thank you for reading and may God bless you.

I just had amazing feedback yesterday! I had the  follow up CT scan, after 6 weeks of chemo and radiation and then an additional 3 weeks of high-dose brachytherapy radiation. The doctor was super happy with results, he said the cerv cancer (which the docs said was very big and very spread) is gone completely! And there is just a tiny bit of lymph tumors in ny pelvic area.  He wants to do one more week of external radiation with one more dose of chemo. So not too bad! He said it has gone as well as it can go! The periaortic lymph tumor (this metastatic spread tumor is usually a very bad sign with cerv cancer) which they were quite concerned about because it was pushing on my aorta is completely gone!   One of the nurses told me that I was an unusual case because they dont usually see results so quickly. She said my tumors were shrinking so quickly they had to adjust the treatment! I am so thankful! Jer 17:14!!!! Now just keep praying the PET scan(the 1 or 3 month follow up)  finds no trace of distant cancer! The Lord our God is a God who heals! I am so very thankful for the supernatural results of a conventional treatment plan! Psalm 118:17👆 🙏🏻

Praise God!!

Hello everyone! I am at the hospital right now and just had a follow up CT scan. The doctor was super happy with the results, he said there is just a tiny bitty of lymph tumors that he wants to do one more week of external radiation with one more dose of chemo. So not bad! He said it has gone as well as it can possibly go! The periaortic lymph tumor which they were very concerned about because it was pushing on my aorta is completely gone! I am so thankful! Jeremiah 17:14!!!!! Now we will just keep praying that the PET scan(the 1 or 2 month follow up)finds no trace of distant cancer. Thank you all so much for you love and prayers! I love each and every one of you guys!!

Stacie’s cancer treatment update
November 12, 2020

Good morning everyone! First of all I would like to thank each and every one of you for your prayers and for your support for Stacie, Ken, and the kids. We absolutely believe in the power of prayer, and that the prayers each of you have been praying have helped Stacie remain strong and also have helped in shrinking her tumors! Last week, Stacie's radiologist told her, "This is working!" She has hopefully received her last chemo treatment but we won't know for sure until she has some tests done. The radiation treatments have now moved from external to internal, so please pray for strength as this will take a physical(and emotional I'm sure)toll on Stacie. Quick story. Last week, when she went in for radiation treatment, there was another older woman there in the waiting room with her and they began talking. Their talk quickly turned spiritual, and the woman proclaimed to Stacie, "baby, you are going to be well, Jesus is going to bring healing to your body and you are going to get through this and be completely well." Stacie began to cry and thanked the woman. She said to her, "you know, one of my favorite verses, and one that I have clung to during this, is Jeremiah 17:14. Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; and at this point the woman began to speak and finish the verse with her. Save me, and I shall be saved, for You are my praise." Stacie cried again, and they spoke together of the goodness and faithfulness of God. Then the woman looked at Stacie intently and said, "Stacie, the Lord is going to heal you, and you are going to be well, and you are going to get to Florida." Now no one outside of close family and friends know that Stacie and Ken had been planning to move to Florida before her diagnosis; so as you can imagine, Stacie's jaw hit the ground and she cried again and thanked the woman for her word from the Lord. So we are entering the holiday season truly thankful. Thanksgiving will be extra special for us this year, as we look at our sister, daughter, wife, mother and friend and thank God in advance for bringing her safely through this ordeal. At Christmas we will be doubly thankful, for what God has done in our beloved Stacie, and for the greatest gift ever given in the history of the universe, Jesus Christ our Lord. We continue to covet your prayers through this, and we know that there is more of the battle yet to come; and yet we believe that we have the victory through Jesus and His mighty power. We believe that your continued prayers will be to her a covering, a high wall of protection, and will bring the continued healing power of our Lord. In addition to all of that, I would add that the financial burden of all of this is going to be huge, and though insurance will cover much of it, there will be still more that it will not. Please continue to share this post with friends so that any who may be moved to give would be able to do so. Thank you all again so very much. We love you all. Many of you I have never even met, but I thank you for being here for Stacie and for all of us. Someday, whether in the flesh or in glory, I will thank you in person and give you all big hugs. God bless you.

Update #6
October 21, 2020
facebook twitter

Good morning everyone! I apologize for the long delay in between updates but I wanted to catch everybody up to speed as to where exactly we are. Stacie has been home now for two weeks and is set up at my parents house with Ken and the kids. She is receiving chemotherapy treatments twice a week and radiation every day. She is in very good spirits but is obviously tired and low energy due to the treatments. I would like to ask for your prayers first and foremost that the treatments Stacie is receiving would act in a very aggressive manner in shrinking and killing the cancer. Secondly, I would like to ask for all of your prayers that Stacie would remain her optimistic self and that we would be an encouragement and a support to her to the degree that she needs. The atmosphere at the Thomas houses is very happy and we are extremely pleased that we are able to all be together again like we haven't been able to be for too many years now. We are very excited to spend the holiday season together, but underlying our joy is our continued concern for Stacie and her health. The issues with clotting that she had in her pick lines seem to have been resolved, and with the exception of a few minor incidents her bleeding has been under control. I will try to continue and keep you all updated throughout this process and once again would like to say that we love you all, appreciate you so much, and will continue to covet your thoughts and prayers. We are so grateful for your generosity, and for your willingness to help the Hutchings/Thomas family through this difficult time.
God bless.

Continued treatment and travel plans

Hello all. Stacie is doing well and was feeling much better yesterday. Along with focused radiation she is also recieving chemotherapy once a week and this, of course, leaves her feeling not herself. She is hoping to have her chemo treatment this Tuesday and to be able to set up appointments in Syracuse for next Monday and Tuesday. This will allow them to be able to book definite flights for this weekend and a Tuesday Chemo treatment will allow her to recover in time to fly without feeling especially unwell. Please continue to pray for all of this planning to go smoothly as well as for traveling mercies and for Stacies continued treatments to work fast to kill the cancer cells. God bless you all for your love and continued prayers and support.

Stacie is out of the hospital
October 1, 2020
facebook twitter

Good morning everyone! I just wanted to provide another update on where everything stands with Stacie right now. She has had several radiation treatments on the tumor in her cervix and in the lymph. The doctors have sent her home and she will now be traveling back and forth to the hospital in Couerd'alene(still 1 hour from home but better than 1.5) for daily treatments. Ken and Stacie both would like me to say to all of you who have been praying for them that they are so very appreciative and that they have absolutely felt the power of your prayers in their minds and hearts each day. The Lord has given them peace and hope and they believe(and are right in doing so)that it is, in no small part, due to all of your continued prayer, which we believe to be powerful and effective.  Please continue to pray for them that the radiation treatment will work quickly and effectively to shrink the tumors. The tentative plan as of now is for Stacie and McKenzie to fly to New York by next weekend and then for Ken and the boys to drive east right behind them. Ken also told me that he requires prayer because he is doing all of the housework of which he is ill-suited to adequately perform LOL. I told him that God would be using his trial of house-husbanding as a much, much, much needed refining fire in his life!! For those of you who know us well you know that humor(usually that of the chop-busting variety) is one of the main ways in which we Thomas' and Hutchings' express love towards one another. We often quote Proverbs 17:22 in our defense. "A merry heart does good, like medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones." We are so looking forward to having our families together again for the upcoming holiday season, and believe that the joy that being together brings us, along with all of the prayer and friendships that we have been abundantly blessed with, will aid Stacie in the fight ahead. Lastly, if anyone wishes to donate, but does not wish to do so online; please email me at - simplegrinnell@gmail.com - and I will give you an address that you can mail checks to if you so desire. Thank you all again so much for being with us through this difficult time. We love each and every one of you and pray that God will richly bless you and your families as He has us.

Good news!
September 28, 2020
facebook twitter

Prayer works! We just learned that the cancer cells are squamous and are therefore treated with direct radiation as opposed to chemotherapy. As a result of this, Stacie will be in Idaho for at least another week as they begin the treatment immediately. The reason she will be staying there for the initial treatments is that the bleeding has not completely stopped, and the way to stop it would make the direct radiation treatment less effective. So bummer for us in NY because we want them all to be here now, but for Stacie's health it is better and an answer to prayer. Please continue to pray that her body will respond in the best possible way to these treatments and that the cancer will begin to be destroyed right away. Love you all.

A message from Stacie
September 27, 2020
facebook twitter

Hello everyone! Stacie texted me today and asked that I would pass on a message to you all from her:

To all the friends and family and anonymous folks who have shown such amazing support to us through prayers and donations:  THANK YOU  so very, very much.  This is such a scary time and it really helps to know people are not only praying and sending such kind encouragement,  but also donating from their own finances to help us. It still seems surreal to me, I just can't believe that I  have cancer. I am placing my hope in God and believing that His plan for me will include being cured and living the rest of my life abundantly! The main thing you guys can pray for me at the moment is that the bleeding will stop so I can leave the hospital and head back to NY so I can be near family during the treatment.  Thank you all so much, your love means everything to me and my family💖

Specific prayer requests
September 26, 2020
facebook twitter

Hi everybody. Thank you all so much for visiting our page and for your prayers and generous contributions. For those of you who want to be praying specifically for Stacie, we currently have the following prayer requests.
1- That Stacie's bleeding will stop so that she can travel sooner rather than later and that they will not have to, for lack of technical wording, cauterize her cervix.
2- That the cancer cells would be squamous and be treatable with direct radiation verses chemotherapy.
I will try and keep you all updated in as real-time as possible as to Stacie's condition, travel arrangements, and treatments. Thank you all so much for your prayers!

PRAYER REQUESTS

  • Please be praying that Stacie will be able to make appointments in Syracuse for treatment on the 12th & 13th so that they can get their flight to Syracuse booked. Thank you all!

  • Stacie has developed a blood clot in her pic line. They are using blood thinners to address the issue and the concern is that she could start bleeding again. Please pray that this situation would be resolved without causing any further delays in bringing Stacie home. They have plane tickets purchased for Saturday so please also pray for a safe trip with no arising health concerns along the way. God bless
