On Sunday March 14th we were in the process of unloading & moving my mother in law into an assisted living facility when Noah (her 15 year old grandson) fell from the back of the moving truck and seriously fractured his leg.  We are presently at Memorial Herman Children's Hospital in Houston, Texas.  The problem is we are far from home and our travel expenses and medical bills are piling up.  If you find it in your hearts to help us we would sincerely appreciate it.  We are also making purchases and modifications to our home for Noah's 10 week recovery. Thank you for reading this and God bless!

UPDATES

Update #16
March 26, 2021
facebook twitter

So I didn't update everyone last night because I've come down with a sinus infection.  I'm sure it's allergy & stress related but I had a horrible headache last night.  Noah did well yesterday.  We saw his primary doctor & received a referral to our new orthopedic who we will see Monday afternoon.  We took him to a late breakfast yesterday & went recliner shopping.  We found a recliner at the Mathis outlet that will work well for him for the next few weeks.  Today we will try to rest to recover from yesterday & I'm going to try to get rid of this stupid sinus issue.  Please continue to keep our family in your prayers as we've been hit with multiple craziness these past few weeks.

Update #15
March 25, 2021
facebook twitter

We spent a long but decently restful day at home today.  Noah spent most of the day on the couch.  He is struggling with feeling kind of down & bored.  We have a doctors appointment tomorrow so we will take him to lunch after it.  I'm hoping that getting out will help his mood.  We also need a new recliner.  Ours has been falling apart for a few months & Noah really needs one for the next few weeks.  So we are going to use some of the donation money to get a recliner so he will be more comfortable to sit in the living room & watch movies.  We took his brace & ace wrap off so he could bathe this evening & I think his swelling has went down some.  Please continue to pray for a swift recovery & that the swelling continues to go down.

Update #14
March 24, 2021
facebook twitter

We spent the day trying to catch up on rest.  John got the parts to attach a hand held shower head to our bathtub so Noah can bathe easier & Noah's adjustable bed was delivered.  Because of the severity of his injury he will have to sleep with his leg elevated for several weeks.  He was in a fairly good place mentally today which is of course a good thing.  Our plan is to stay home all day tomorrow & then on Thursday we have another doctors appointment.  John rented a couple of movies for the boys so we spent our evening watching movies & snacking.

Update #13
March 23, 2021
facebook twitter

We're Home!  We arrived home about 11:30 last night.  Noah got up the front stairs fairly well even though it had been raining.   Today we need to run a few errands and get him a hand held shower head so he can bathe easier.  The doctor has him non weight bearing for 6 weeks but did give him clearance to remove his immobilizer to bathe.  We go to another doctor Thursday so the next couple of days we need to recoup from our trip & get our house back in order. Thank you for your continuing prayers!

Update #12
March 22, 2021
facebook twitter

We spent last night in a comfort inn in Pearland Texas.  This morning we have an appointment at 10:45 with Noah's surgeon.  We're praying things are healing well & Noah's recovery is quick.  As soon as the appointment is over we're heading home.  We're very anxious to get home today.  Please continue to pray for his continuing healing & for safe travels for us today.

Update #11
March 21, 2021
facebook twitter

I’m sitting here in Texas this morning pondering this past few days.  Our spring break was not what we had planned.  In fact what we’ve experienced wasn’t even in our wildest dreams.  But God brought us through.  We’ve spent time as a family, not having all the adventures we planned but we do have some sweet memories.  It’s been extremely challenging on our emotions & our stress but God has continued to be with us every step of the way.  We’re not done yet, as we have a follow up with Noah’s surgeon in the morning & a day of travel, but I know God will be with us through all of that as well.  We knew we had wonderful friends & family but this experience made us realize how truly blessed we are having relationships with all of the people in our lives.  We encountered wonderful nurses & doctors at the hospital as well.  Thank you all for your help & continued prayers.

Update #10
March 21, 2021
facebook twitter

Noah had a really good evening.  He moved around and took a bath this evening with virtually no pain.  He can't wait to get the splint off Monday morning & hopefully be moved into an immobilizer.  Tomorrow we are headed about an hour south of Houston to Pearland where we will be in a hotel until Monday mornings follow up with his surgeon.  Please pray for continued healing for him & a great report from the surgeon!

Update #9
March 20, 2021
facebook twitter

Noah had a fairly good day overall.  He's tired of sitting & really wants the splint off.  He's still having hip pain but we have our follow up with the surgeon Monday & we're hopeful he will be put in an immobilizer. The plan as of right now is to go to Pearland Texas Monday & then after his appointment head for home.  We are so ready to be in our house again!

Update #8
March 19, 2021
facebook twitter

Noah had a really rough time getting up today.  He woke up pretty sore and uncomfortable.  We're going to try to take him out today for a little bit because we think it will help his mental state.  His splint is so heavy that he's having a really hard time getting around & it's driving him crazy.  There's been some tears this morning for the first time since his admittance to the hospital.  Please pray that he finds peace and can relax and let us help him.

Update #7
March 19, 2021
facebook twitter

We took Noah to dinner late this afternoon to avoid crowds.  He did great but got tired pretty easily.  We have a confirmed appointment in south Houston with his surgeon Monday morning at 10:45 & then we're heading straight to Oklahoma.  We miss our farm & animals.  Noah misses his bed & room.  It's hard to be hurt far away from home.  Thank you for your continuing prayers!

Update #6
March 18, 2021
facebook twitter

Noah slept much better last night.  The best he's slept since the accident.  He woke up with much less pain today.  His hip is hurting and so I'm going to address that with his surgeon.  His pain has moved from the top of his leg to the side but his surgeon told us that pain moving around his leg is normal.  He's worried about playing the drum set and I think that's where his depression is coming from.  He loves his drum set.  We're going to take him out to eat for dinner today to hopefully help his mental state.  Please keep praying for him.

Update #5
March 18, 2021
facebook twitter

We've kept Noah on the heavy duty pain meds all day to keep him comfortable.  He managed to bathe today which was challenging but he got through it.  He also practiced in his wheel chair & got up & used his walker more.  It is exhausting when he's using his walker because his splint is so heavy!  His hip is fairly sore also because of the weight of the splint.  Our goal tomorrow is to possibly take him out to eat in an effort to get him out for a little bit & maybe help his mental health.  He's dealing with a little depression.  Thank you for continuing to pray for him.

Update #4 Noah is pretty miserable this morning!
March 17, 2021
facebook twitter

Noah woke up pretty miserable and hurting this morning.  They sent us home with heavy duty pain killers so we gave him one this morning.  He's trying to be chipper but he's having a hard time emotionally too.  He's a very active kid and this is really hard for him to deal with.  Today the plan is to rest and get up and move as much as he can.  Please keep praying for him & please pray that he finds happiness despite all of this.

Update #3 We’ve Been Discharged!!!
March 17, 2021
facebook twitter

We were discharged late this afternoon.  The ride in the truck was not as bad as I thought it would be.  He was discharged with a wheel chair & walker.  He's getting around with help fairly well.  The splint on his leg is very heavy so we have to help carry it when he moves around.  We have a follow up appointment Monday and then we will be heading home.  We will then see an orthopedic doctor in OKC at the end of the week.  For the next few days he is working on resting and learning to get around.  Thank you for your continued prayers!

Update #2 Better Night!
March 16, 2021
facebook twitter

We had a decent night last night.  Noah slept better and woke up in better spirits.  Physical therapy will be here in about 20 minutes and so he just received oral pain meds to get through that.  He will be put in a wheel chair to get around for at least the next few weeks.  The surgeon told us that she basically pieced his leg back together like a puzzle and removed a piece of bone altogether because it wasn't repairable.  Good news is after several months of good healing his hardware is removable by a minor surgery.  He's keeping food down well and hasn't had any stomach issues from the pain meds or antibiotics. We follow up with the surgeon early next week and then hopefully we can start towards home.  Thank you for your continuing prayers!

Noah came through surgery well

He's in quite a bit of pain but is doing well.  Because of the complicated situation of recovery and insurance issues it looks like we may be stuck in Houston for about a week.  Please keep him in your ongoing prayers.
