Monday morning Casey, Sarah and their two little boys (4 & 7) started out on a trip from Texas to Florida to visit family. Fifteen minutes into their drive at 6:30am they were in a head-on collision with an intoxicated driver. Sarah, who was driving, was able to exit the vehicle and try to pull their youngest from the wreckage, whose foot was wedged between seats. A bystander stopped and called 911 and helped remove their other son from his car seat. The boys were screaming for help and the bystander said she will never get that sound out of her head. The front of the van was completely pushed into the front seat and trapped Casey in the passenger seat. Paramedics arrived quickly but it took an hour to remove Casey safely from the van.

The whole family was then immediately taken to a local hospital and received emergency care. Sean was sent to a children's hospital when they discovered he had a pulmonary contusion and broken sternum. That night Casey and Sarah were admitted to a trauma hospital in Dallas where they determined that Casey had two breaks in his left arm, two broken hands and two severed tendons in his right arm. He also had 12 broken bones in his feet along with a broken nose. Sarah sustained a fracture to her wrist and ankle as well as severe bruising from the impact. Zeke was taken to the children's hospital the next day when it was apparent his break needed more care. They reset his arm, which was excruciatingly painful. Sean's MRI showed multiple compression fractures to his spine and loose ligaments which require a neck brace for at least 6-8 weeks.

We are so grateful that they all survived what was a catastrophic accident. Casey has had one surgery to put two plates and six screws into his left arm. He will need another surgery this week to repair the two severed tendons in his right arm and hopefully gain back most of his mobility. Sarah and the boys have been released from the hospital and are home as of Wednesday 9/8.

Both Casey and Sarah will be in wheelchairs for 6+ weeks so we are building a ramp and fixing their front patio for ease of access to their home and making the home wheelchair friendly. Family and friends are helping with groceries, care of the boys, meals, projects, doctor appointments and errands. We would love to raise some money to cover the cost of these incidentals as the family recovers from this life-changing event.

Sean is officially out of his brace after 6 weeks. We are very grateful!
Zeke is in a removable cast for another month.
Caseys pain is finally subsiding so we will have to see if he ends up needing knee surgery
Sarah should hopefully get her cast off on 11/2.

All good things and we are very grateful:)

Toe surgery

Today we are praying for Caseys toe surgery! We are praising God for 2 fantastic orthopedic doctors. We will have to wait until he can put weight on his feet to see if his knee needs surgery, so that will possibly happen before the end of the year if so.

We so appreciate your prayer, love, and support! God is good:)

Once again we are so very thankful for your prayer and support. God is good!

This week:
-Zeke got a new cast that gives more coverage and the bone is already beginning to regrow. Within a year, his arm should be fully healed! His next x ray is on 10/20.
-Sean passed all the evaluations by the neurologist and is expected to get his neck brace off,  pending x rays, also on 10/20.
- Casey has found good doctors and has several appointments this coming week including surgery for his toe,  which is broken in 4 places, on Thursday. He also had MRI on his knee and pending results that could result in another surgery. One of the ortho doctors said it is very rare for people who have had injuries to all 4 limbs to survive, so we have yet another reason we are thankful.
-Sarah is now in a boot and a brace on her wrist. The doctor said the boot on her foot is optional, determined by pain, and the bone should heal eventually. She is getting a ct scan on her wrist on Friday this week to determine if it needs a cast or not.

As you pray, pray that God will continue to walk in the peace of God. We have hard moments but we remember Gods goodness in them. We really appreciate all the calls and visits! They help so much! :)

Thank you so much for the prayer and support. God has been so very kind to us!
We are so very thankful for Caseys sisters, mom and aunt who have stayed with us and helped keep us running
The next few weeks are filled with doctors appointments.
Our biggest prayer requests are for Casey and Zekes pain management
Casey will be having surgery on one of his broken toes next week and possibly knee surgery.
its a long road but we are in good spirits!

Update -
September 14, 2021
facebook twitter

Hello friends and family. We are so grateful to be recovering at home as a family. Pain is a difficult thing to manage for all 4 of us, but especially Casey and Zeke. We have felt very loved and supported. A huge thank you to all who have donated to help with the expenses and for the kind words, letters and prayers.

The insurance situation is still unfolding but we have found out that the driver of the other car was uninsured. We are praying that we will have enough from uninsured motorist insurance and PIP to cover the cost of a new vehicle and replacing the items ruined in the crash. We are hoping that medical insurance will help with much of the hospital stays, surgeries and doctors appointments, but the cost for these things is going to be astronomical. The donations so far have been used to install a wheelchair ramp, make the bathrooms wheelchair accessible, buy medical durable goods, etc. Please feel free to share our campaign as we continue to incur expenses. Thank you all so much!

Casey went into surgery to repair both severed tendons in his right arm at 4:15pm on Thursday, Sept 9th. We are praying for successful surgery, quick healing, and full range of motion restored. He may be able to go home this weekend!

  • For Casey we are praying for pain management and the right meds
  • For Sean we are praying that his neck brace will keep is spine in alignment and prevent the need for a future surgery
  • For Zeke we are praying that the pain would be managed appropriately and that his break would heal properly.
  • For Sarah we are praying for quick healing of her two fractures.
  • For the whole family we are praying that the God of peace will comfort them and help them to heal emotionally from this traumatic event. We also pray that the Lord would be glorified in this trial and that good may come of it as promised in Romans 8:28:
